Cleaning Out the Clubhouse!!!!

Hello folks,

If this will be your last weekend of skiing/riding at Bromley, please remember to grab your gear.  If you are going to ski/ride on Easter Weekend, the Club will be open and you can grab gear then.  It will be very important for folks to grab all of their gear since we will be doing a deep clean and some storage/cubby renovations this spring/summer.  Thank you for your help…  Over the years, we have accumulated lots of extra stuff and it is time to purge so we can create as much room as possible.

J6 Team Update for March 18

J6 Parents and Athletes,

Well, despite our best efforts, spring has definitely sprung here in Vermont.  That doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of skiing left, it just means we don’t need 4 layers of clothing and hot chocolate to enjoy it.  Saturday is forecast to hit 60 degrees!  Dare we start thinking about skiing in shorts?

This weekend we’ll spend our last full weekend tuning up for the club championship on March 28.  Let’s show those older kids a thing or two.  As I found out personally last weekend, age does not trump beauty when it comes to racing.

See you on Saturday!

Coach John

J5 Spring Fling Weekend

Well, although last weekend’s cancellation was a disappointment, the mountain, once again, has proved to withstand the fluctuations of the weather. The skiing is perfect spring conditions- lots of sunshine, soft corn snow in the mornings and mashed potatoes in the afternoon.

Looks like the weather will continue into the upcoming weekend with the possibility of precip for Sunday. J5s have some options, all of which sound fun. Saturday is the pond skimming. According to the mountain’s website, those participants 10 & under go first. Sunday will be the cardboard race. There is also the “Rising Bear” race over at Stratton on Sunday. The Rising Bear race is similar to our Pabst race, combining J6s and J5s. We have been invited to participate. I would like to know who is interested in going by the weekend so we can plan for our coaching staff. I am still waiting for the details on start and cost- I’ll send out that information as soon as I get it.

Good luck to all those going to Gunstock!!

J6 Team Update for March 10

J6 Parents and Athletes,

Did we ever own the mountain last weekend!  It was a wild crew of J6 skiers that ate up the mush on Saturday and Sunday.  We even skied Little Dipper twice as evidenced by the attached photos.  We also watched our heroine Lyndsay make slalom look easy as she foreran the J1/2 race over the weekend.  You can see the wheels turning in the J6 heads as they see what is possible.

We introduced a couple new drills this weekend that helped get the skiers forward, on edge and moving their feet quickly through turns.  These brush drills were fun and fast for the kids, and I watched with immense satisfaction as body and ski position improved with every run.

OK, after a week of non-stop sun (almost unheard of in VT!) we’re all pretty spoiled.  It looks like we are in for a wet weekend, so be prepared.  Right now they’re calling for showers on Saturday and rain on Sunday.  The snow will be soft, but make sure the kids have some way to stay dry.  We’ll try to work around it, but we’re the J6s, so we have to set the example for all the other BOC skiers and will probably end up outdoors most of the time.

Finally, get ready for Mountain Dew this weekend.  Details about the race are on the Bromley Mountain site.  Suffice it to say that caffeine and sugar can be found in abundance this Saturday!

See you on the mountain,

Coach John
