If this will be your last weekend of skiing/riding at Bromley, please remember to grab your gear.  If you are going to ski/ride on Easter Weekend, the Club will be open and you can grab gear then.  It will be very important for folks to grab all of their gear since we will be doing a deep clean and some storage/cubby renovations this spring/summer.  Thank you for your help…  Over the years, we have accumulated lots of extra stuff and it is time to purge so we can create as much room as possible.

Looks like the weather will continue into the upcoming weekend with the possibility of precip for Sunday. J5s have some options, all of which sound fun. Saturday is the pond skimming. According to the mountain’s website, those participants 10 & under go first. Sunday will be the cardboard race. There is also the “Rising Bear” race over at Stratton on Sunday. The Rising Bear race is similar to our Pabst race, combining J6s and J5s. We have been invited to participate. I would like to know who is interested in going by the weekend so we can plan for our coaching staff. I am still waiting for the details on start and cost- I’ll send out that information as soon as I get it.

BOC Rocks!!

Well the good news is that there is still a lot of snow on the mountain, even after 4 straight days of sun.

Bad news is, yup, it’s gonna rain this weekend. Then again, forecasts are known for their inaccuracy, so maybe we’ll be lucky.

In any case, we have a busy weekend ahead. Saturday is the Mountain Dew race. If your child would like to participate, please inform Bucky or Dave. We will also be having a GS training session on Saturday in preparation for Sunday’s final Council race. If it actually does rain, we will plan the training around the weather. As for the council race, there is no indication thus far of it being cancelled. Let’s assume that the show will go on!

Unfortunately, this weekend is one of those weekends that I planned way back when, and I will not be at the mountain. Our trusty J5 coaches, Bucky and the rest of the crew, Dave, Brad, and Temerson, will all be on board this weekend. Good luck everyone!!

I am asking for training space for both mornings- continuing to train GS. We have our last SVC race next weekend at Bromley. In the afternoons we will mix free skiing with focused drills. It is important to recognize that the time we spend out of gates is essential at this time in an athlete’s development. Navigating trees and bumps develops a ski racer’s “touch” for snow and terrain as well as line and perceptual skills.

We will try to have some training space on Saturday for GS (TBA) and the 2nd Pabst Race will be held on Sunday afternoon.

We will also be mountain skiing for part of the day on Saturday- with this much snow we can’t miss the opportunity to learn from exploring different terrain and conditions.

Also, we will have more discussion on the Piche Race at Gunstock (March 19/20) and figure out who qualifies to go. Steve Lathrop sent out an email to all J5 parents. Please let me know if you did not receive this email.

To recap this week, all the J5s works really hard at Slalom Camp. Some got the hang of cross blocking, others have improved pole plants while others are being to set an early line- all good stuff.

Yesterday afternoon came as a relief to many, just to be able to “let ‘em run” for a bit. We will continue with GS training on Saturday with timed runs to prepare for the GS race at Stratton on Sunday.

Thursday Afternoon: Due to some terrain constraints Friday and Saturday, we will switch gears back to GS for the afternoon. Training will be on East Meadow.

Friday Morning: Sleep in, free ski, go out for brunch. J5s have been working really hard all week and need a break leading up to the weekend and the race at Stratton. For those who don’t know, the Sunday race was changed to a GS from the Kombi.

Friday Afternoon: Gs training starts at 12:00 noon

Saturday: GS training in morning.

Saturday afternoon will be spent doing focused drills. Our skiing session will end a little early so we can address equipment needs of athletes.

Special Notice!

J5s will be training slalom as we move into President’s week. Slalom races start at the J4 level but preparation starts now! We will join forces with the Slalom Camp. If your athlete does not have the equipment, please purchase shin guards, pole guards, and chin guard for helmet. If the budget is tight, then at a minimum, purchase shin guards. Thanks!

Congratulations to all the J5s for performing so well at the races last weekend. It seems that the combination of training and effort is yielding great results!

As always there’s lots going on at the Big B this weekend. Training plans are still being finalized but will most definitely include dual GS, as that is our next race (Williard Feb 14th).  I’ll have a better sense of location toward the end of the week- stay tuned.
