Another soggy week here in the Green Mountains, but we are expecting cold weather tonight and tomorrow night so snow making will be underway at Bromley.

I hope everyone had fun at last weekend’s last-minute race on East Meadow. It sure looked like all the skiers had a good time, and I’m pleased to see our skiing improving for nearly everyone.

David Samuels (Skyler and Casey’s dad) was able to take a number of great photos of the racers. Here’s a link so you can look through them.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/boc_2012/

Please note: Our canceled Pabst race from last weekend is now rescheduled for February 12 at 1pm.

See you on the mountain!

Coach John

Hope this posting find everyone well and ready to move into the second half of the season. The Bromley crew has continued to do a great job of providing us a terrific playground, despite mother nature’s evil efforts. Most of our athletes will be around this weekend(due to postponed events) to enjoy some training before the crazy schedule’s of February and March kick in. Also, we are planning a BBQ for Saturday(28th) and would welcome any assistance and/or donations to help offset the cost/efforts of providing this wonderful fare for our members and staff.

This weekend’s events include an exciting boarder/skier cross competition on the Plaza hill for Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday afternoon we will be hosting the second Pabst race of the year on the East Meadow. These events are always fun and are great opportunity to work off your volunteer commitments.

We would like to remind everyone that our biggest fundraiser of the year is also approaching, Febfest. We are always looking for help in gathering outstanding auction items, please help our club by seeking out items from your business and personnel contacts. Let’s us know what you come up with.

J6 Parents and Athletes,

I’m beginning to think that Mother Nature is on vacation and her evil twin is in town for a few days. After spectacular snow to ski on last weekend, it warmed up just to rain this week, then temps plummeted again. Things seem to be getting back to normal, with temps projected in the 20s this weekend. We still need that big dump, so if you end up in chair #1 or stop on the wheels, be sure to wish for lots of snow.

Last weekend our first Pabst race was a big success. With sunny skies, great snow and super skiing, everyone seemed to have a good time. I was pleased with the support of all the parents and the rest of the BOC seemed to be cheering from the sidelines. This weekend we’ll follow up on that success with some continued technical training which will include some course work, probably on School Slope. Our second race is just a week away on Sunday, January 29.

Think snow and see you Saturday morning,

Coach John

Thanks for all the great efforts on the hill this last holiday break, We do understand it was not the best of hill conditions, but we used the limited conditions to our benefit. The coming weekend should offer a wider terrain selection. We will be host a number of events this weekend, so please if you can lend a hand do so.

At this time, I would also like to mention a growing concern we have with the our clubhouse. During the holiday week our clubhouse was way too messy. Plastic bags, half eaten nachos, french fries and a lot of other garbage all over the place. In plain it, was treated without any respect. I was also made aware of some of athletes not treating each other with mutual respect. Both of these situations are entirely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Please talk with your athlete/child about this situation, we(coaches/staff) can not be downstairs at all times to monitor the athletes behavior and cleanliness. The only alternative would be to close the clubhouse to all but ski storage, something none of us want to do. Thanks for your help in straightening out our situations.

Good evening BOC Parents and Athletes,

What a difference a year makes. As I look out my window in Vermont, I see an awful lot of brown and gray. The good news is it is also 10 degrees out and I’m sure the mountain is doing its best to blow as much snow as possible. I see on the Bromley website at least three new trails with snowmaking on them. Now, if only Mother Nature would kick it up a notch…

We are making the best of our situation however, and pushing forward nonetheless. I was pleased to return from my trip to Argentina to find Laura, Mackie, and Lily already working on a number of key developmental elements. Everyone in the group now knows the ready position with hands up and forward, knees bent and body well balanced. I was very impressed with what I saw from the group over the weekend, and can’t wait for our first Pabst Race coming up in a couple of weeks. We worked on edging, one ski, and whirly birds as well. The group made some beautiful GS turns over the holiday break.

When you are skiing with your kids, remind them what “free skiing” really means – practice what you’ve learned! They’ve all heard it from the coaches, so they shouldn’t be too surprised to hear it from their parents. If you have any questions, concerns or other issues, please feel free to contact me any time at the number or email address below. Please sign up for the RSS feed at the BOC website. I will continue to send emails as well to make sure everyone gets these messages.

Now, let’s turn our collective psychic powers to producing some snow!

See you on Saturday,

Coach John
