Hamilton Hadden – Head U12 Alpine Coach

Tell us about yourself:

I’ve been married to a wonderful woman for twenty-five years, Patricia. We have 4 active children, Isa (17), Hammy (16), Nico (12), and Vivi (9). The BOC has been a huge part of each child’s skiing development. I grew up skiing at Bromley, starting when I was 3 years old. My parents would take us on family and school ski trips every year. From 7th through 9th grades I raced at Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, MA. My coaching started in 2019 when my oldest children were u12 racers at BOC, not only through a desire to understand the sport better but also as a way to give back to a community that had provided so many valuable life lessons for me and my family.

What excites you about coaching at the BOC?
Coaching at the BOC is really rewarding. The BOC is a mighty little engine of ski racing talent at a mountain that was a pioneer in the sport of alpine skiing. We focus on having fun outdoors in the winter – BOC athletes flip the script and learn how to do hard things in challenging conditions with a smile. I get to work with kids at all-different skill levels so it presents some exciting challenges, but seeing the growth of dedicated athletes from December through March can be astounding.
What is your favorite trail at Bromley?

Summit access: Sunder to Cork to Pabst Panic. Alpine Chair Access: Ridge (short, sweet, and kind of hiding in plain sight)

What do you do in the off-season?
I’m an architect and a stay-at-home dad. In the off-season we spend a lot of time at kid’s sporting events and we get out on the Long Island Sound in our boat named Tamatoa.
What makes the BOC such a special program?

The BOC brings people together from all around the northeast. Local families gravitate to it because it’s convenient and friendly. New Yorkers come for the fresh snow the Green Mountains provide. Boston folks come to hang out with the New Yorkers. Folks from RI and CT have their own reasons. I know the BOC is bigger than the comp weekend program, and I love it for JISP and all the other things it does, but really when families dedicate as much time and effort as BOC families do skiing together and watching their kids race they are bound to create an amazingly supportive and fun-loving community.

Is there anything else you would like parents or athletes to know about you?
I love to tele-ski, free your heel and the rest will follow!
