U12 ‘s will be introduced to a higher level of racing techniques and be further introduced to gate training; with progression up to the full sized gates used during their race series. However, there will still be a large emphasis on directed free skiing and drills that will bring discipline into the gate training.
This age group will participate in the Southern Vermont Junior Council Race Series. Where they will compete against other surrounding area alpine programs. This age group will compete in Giant Slalom, Slalom, and the Skills Quest events throughout the season. A schedule will be provided for those racers that may be interested.
This is an important and delicate age group as the focus must be balanced between fun and discipline in the sport. Throughout, the season the group within itself, will engage in a variety of games/day long events that test a variety of skills (all-mountain challenge, bump competition, etc.). This not only provides variety for the athletes but allows them to become better all-around skiers and a focus on the love for the sport.
